  Audubon House

Audubon House & Tropical Gardens

This elegant mid-nineteenth century example of American Classic Revival architecture was built in the 1840's by Capt. John H. Geiger. Capt. Geiger was the port’s first state licensed harbor pilot. He made his fortune as a master wrecker, salvaging ships that foundered on the treacherous reefs. Capt. Geiger lived in the home with his wife Lucretia and their nine children. The house is a perfect setting for the works of John James Audubon who visited the Florida Keys and the Dry Tortugas in 1832. While painting in the gardens on Capt. Geiger’s property, Audubon identified and drew 19 Florida birds. The Audubon House Fine Art Gallery features a wonderful collection of Audubon’s original hand watercolored lithographs and engravings (circa 1830-1859) available for purchase. In addition to the stunning 19th century originals, the Gallery offers select limited edition reproductions of these American masterpieces. The Museum Store offers an eclectic array of giftware. Birds, tropical plants and flowers are represented through decorative and functional ceramics, bronzes, metalwork and porcelains. These are displayed throughout the store along with jewelry, selected antiques and reproductions, home furnishings, books and educational items for children. The lush tropical gardens where Audubon painted are also available for weddings and corporate functions. We have installed “moon lighting” throughout our gardens which illuminates more than an acre of grounds and trees. Our antique copper lanterns set atop graceful white columns scattered throughout the beautiful and rare flora give the grounds a romantic, magical illumination. The gardens are perfect for all kinds of celebrations from a casual themed party to the most elegant catered affair. Corporate parties, plated or buffet dinner celebrations up to 140 and casual receptions for up to 300 can easily be accommodated in this fabulous setting. More on the Audubon House>

Ghosts and Gravestones

Many find Key West strange during the day; but after the sun goes down, the restless souls of the island’s frightful past begin to stir. You will hear their tales that have been all but forgotten as you travel the narrow, dark streets of Old Town - filled with 19th century wooden houses that hold on to the secrets of their former inhabitants. Stories so tragic, so chilling, you’ll see why the Travel Channel has identified Key West as one of America’s “Most Haunted” locations and it has been ranked as fourth of the ten most haunted cities in the country by Haunted America Tours.

EXCLUSIVE nighttime entry into one of the island’s haunted Civil War forts - once quarantine barracks for suffering soldiers left to die from yellow fever; now home to an eerie doll that can play tricks on you if you don’t play nicely. Our Ghost Host will add a pinch of humor to Key West's dark side with tales of deathly love, tragic endings, scores to settle, wrongs to right and ghastly folk – some so strange it will be hard to believe they’re true.   Harry S Truman Little White House

Harry S Truman Little White House

The Harry S Truman Little White House is one of Florida's greatest historic treasures. The home was used as the White House of the United States during the Truman administration. Step back in time to experience the house as it was redecorated for President Truman in 1949. Most of the furnishings are original and used by President Truman. It was also used by inventor Thomas Edison, who resided here for six months while perfecting 41 new weapons for the Navy during WWI. President Truman first came to use the site as a vacation retreat that became the functioning Winter White House from 1946 through 1952. Later Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter and Clinton found it the perfect vacation get away. In 2001, Secretary of State Colin Powell selected it as the site for international peace talks between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan. A fully narrated guided tour of the site informs and entertains as you visit the site. A free printed guide allows visitors to discover the tropical flora that make up the surrounding botanical gardens that form a park-like setting for the Little White House. The Harry S Truman Little White House is the perfect venue for corporate dinners and bridal ceremonies and receptions. The canopy of trees filled with twinkling lights bring about magic moments.   Yankee Freedom II - Dry Tortugas National Park

Yankee Freedom II - Dry Tortugas National Park Ferry

Almost 70 miles, (112.9 km) west of Key West, Florida nestled among spectacular coral reefs, fascinating shipwrecks, and sandy beaches, lie seven undeveloped coral and sand islands called the Dry Tortugas. These islands, along with surrounding coral reefs and waters, make up the Dry Tortugas National Park. Snorkeling, kayaking, camping, legends of pirates and sunken gold have drawn visitors to this national park from all over the world. On Garden Key, the centerpiece of these pristine islands, stands Fort Jefferson – America’s largest and most spectacular 19th-century coastal fort. Fort Jefferson itself is a six-sided building constructed of 16 million handmade red bricks. In 1825 a lighthouse was built on Garden Key to provide warning to sailors about the dangers of reefs and shoals surrounding the Dry Tortugas. The Yankee Freedom II, Key West’s premier ferry to the Dry Tortugas, departs daily at 8am. Upon boarding at 7:30 from Key West, you will enjoy a continental breakfast of fresh fruit, freshly baked bagels, doughnuts, cereal, orange juice, and coffee. En route to Dry Tortugas National Park our onboard naturalist will give you an orientation about the area and the national park's surroundings. You can travel inside the main cabin in air-conditioned comfort or outside on one of the observation decks watching for sea turtles and dolphins. Upon arriving at Dry Tortugas National Park, passengers will disembark at Fort Jefferson and have the option of joining a 40-minute guided tour. Following the tour, you will enjoy a complimentary buffet of fresh deli meats and cheeses, potato and pasta salad, chips, soft drinks, lemonade and iced tea included. The Yankee Freedom II will take you to Dry Tortugas National Park and back again at a speed of up to 30 m.p.h. with safety and comfort like no other ferry operating out of Key West today.
