SUMMARY:Sheriff’s Animal Farm Open House
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to visit the family-friendly Monroe County Sheriff’s Animal Farm\, open on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. Visits are free of charge\, but donations are always welcomed. The farm started as a haven for homeless animals. The first residents were Muscovy ducks and a group of chickens that were causing issues on a nearby golf course and getting killed by vehicles traveling on the road to the jail. Not long after\, the SPCA in Miami asked if the facility would have space for a blind horse they had found abandoned in their area. Using inmate labor\, a pen was created for the horse\, named Angel\, and the animal farm was born. Since then\, it has evolved into a lovely park with a large aviary\, reptile exhibit\, rabbit warren\, farm animals\, and other domestic and exotic animal species.

Truman \nGive ‘Em Hell\, Harry!\, by Samuel Gallu\, is a faithful and often humorous portrayal of President Harry S. Truman’s life and presidency. It spans his childhood\, his “political apprenticeship” as a judge in Jackson County\, MO\, his years in the U.S. Senate and his momentous two terms as President. Actor James Whitmore originated the role in 1975. Clifton Truman Daniel took up the mantle in October of 2017\, marking the first time in history a U.S. president would be portrayed onstage by a direct descendant. \nAs an actor\, Mr. Daniel has appeared in more than a dozen productions with Wilmington’s Opera House Theatre Company\, including Ensign Pulver in Mr. Roberts\, Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls\, Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace\, Randle P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Antonio Salieri in Amadeus.
