Conch Shell Drop at Sloppy Joe’s!

The ball drop in Times Square isn’t the only famous New Year’s Eve tradition! Every December 31 since 1993, a giant conch shell drop on the roof of Sloppy Joe’s has signalled the beginning of a new year! Back then, according to artist and former Key West resident Tobias McGregor, “everyone would just wander around Duval Street, celebrating the New Year when their watches read midnight.” McGregor approached Sloppy Joe’s with his idea for dropping the conch shell, and the rest, as they say, is history. The Conch Shell Drop has been featured on CNN and is entering its 23rd year! Come out to Sloppy Joe’s and celebrate a New Year Eve tradition at “A Key West Tradition!”
Sloppy Joe’s is a true Key West tradition. The bar has been in operation at the corner of Duval and Greene Streets since 1937, and was a favorite of Ernest Hemingway. Virtually unchanged since its opening, it is a must-visit for anyone coming to Key West. For more information on Sloppy Joe’s, visit www.sloppyjoes.com!
