Craving Mexican? Salsa Loca
by Shayne Benowitz
When I’m hungry, and I mean hungry-hungry, like I’ve-been-working-on-a-boat-all-day-and-haven’t-had-a-bite-to-eat-hungry, usually only one of two things will satisfy. The first one is obvious: a big, juicy cheeseburger. Sometimes, though, I’m in the mood to spice it up and that’s when a heaping plate full of Mexican food is the answer.
If you’re in town and you find that such a craving takes over, you’ve got to head to the local’s much loved Salsa Loca in its brand new location. If you were out last night, you would have spotted a table full of the Fury crew dining on tacos, tamales, chimichangas, enchiladas, quesadillas, guacamole, chips and salsa, and… you get the idea, right?
This month Salsa Loca made the move a few blocks down Duval Street and is now adjacent to Cowboy Bill’s at the corner of Angela. The open-air patio is filled with colorful tables packed with loyal patrons. It somehow manages to stay cool in the sweltering summer with its shady position and abundant fans. A bonus to the new locale is the addition of a liquor license. You can still order up a bottle of Corona or Dos Equis, but now you’ve got the option to pair your meal with a frosty margarita or any other cocktail.
Swing in any day of the week (except Monday, they’re closed) and feast with family and friends on hearty Mexican fare. Afterwards, sidle on over to Cowboy Bill’s to watch the game inside their sports bar, test your skills on one of their video games, practice your two step on the dance floor, or even muster up the guts to ride the mechanical bull! Salsa Loca + Cowboy Bill’s = a deliciously fun night on the town in Key West!
