Truman Music Series presents Libby York & Tom Vaitsas

Vocalist Libby York has garnered raves from The New York Times, Downbeat, Jazz Times, The Chicago Tribune, and many other publications and jazz critics for her performances and recordings over her 4 decade career. Her most recent recording, Dreamland, was among Downbeat Magazine’s Best of the Year. Described as a storyteller who sings, “York takes a deep dive into the lyric and makes it her own,” New York City Jazz Record. She is known for her subtle and heartfelt interpretation of Great American Songbook classics, so many of which were written during the Truman Era. Appearances include Mezzrow New York City, Winter’s Jazz Club and Jazz Showcase Chicago, and Cafe Laurent Paris among many others. She has been a favorite among Key West audiences and really looks forward to returning to the beautiful and historic Harry S. Truman Little White House.
Pianist Tom Vaitsas is a top sought-after musician on the Chicago scene, known for his sensitive and swinging work as a great accompanist. He has toured the US and Europe with some of the best in the business. He fell in love with Key west during his concerts with Libby and is thrilled to return to the Harry S. Truman Little White House.
Doors open at 5:30 pm for cocktails and mingling, with Libby and Tom taking the stage at 6:00 pm.
America’s 33rd President spent 11 working vacations at his “Little White House” during his 1945-1953 administration, and could often be spotted in his preferred Key West “uniform” of brightly patterned sports shirts.
In that spirit, retro summer tropical is the suggested attire for the evening.
This is the second of four installments in this year’s Truman Music series, an ongoing program that encompasses performing with an emphasis on Truman-era local history.
