Along with our Harry S Truman and Tennessee Williams museums, we are also home to Hemingway’s home! The place he stayed in while living in Key West now welcomes book- and Hemingway-lovers from all over the world. This is where Hemingway wrote some of his best work, and where you can take a tour of his intimate life or hold an event in his garden.

Drinking With Papa

Not only did Hemingway live and write in Key West, but he was also an active member of our community. The downtown area was close to his property, and it was a popular place for Hemingway to go for some drinks.

In particular, Hemingway became close with Joe Russell, the owner of the famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar. To celebrate this piece of literary history, Sloppy Joe’s holds an annual “Papa” Hemingway Look-Alike Contest. This is held around Hemingway’s birthday, and this year the contest will take place from July 21-23, 2016!

If you think you look like Papa, or to find information about the next look-alike contest, click here.
